Releases for 18 July 2025
The first of 18 July’s scorchers is You’ll Be Alright, Kid, which shows off Alex Warren’s vocal prowess and evolving sound, bringing his rawest and most authentic energy yet, demonstrating why Warren has won over fans globally. Dog Eared is a warm, rich and textured record: a left turn from Billie Marten, albeit a subtle one, embracing change while staying true to her core self, and her quiet confidence and self-belief put her up there with the great British songwriters. I Beat Loneliness is a return to top form for Bush, delivering a sonic evolution that fuses their signature grunge-laden intensity with bold new textures and very personal themes, imbuing the album with a sense of urgency. After a long legal dispute with Easy Jet and an enforced name change from Easy Life, Onion is the long-awaited return of Hard Life, showcasing a more personal side to frontman Murray Matravers’s storytelling: parting ways with people close to him, moving to Japan and his new creative direction. The first guitar notes on Air Between Us hit like a blast of sea air to the face – in just seconds, you’re soaring, in equal parts under the sky and above the sea – and it’s in this in-between where Coral Grief thrive, as they construct elaborate webs of double meanings.
Our release of the week is Breakthrough, which captures blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa at the height of his creative powers, delivering raw emotion, blistering guitar work and fresh sonic twists. Bonamassa proves yet again that he’s not just keeping the blues alive – he’s driving it into the future.
- Breakthrough captures blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa at the height of his creative powers. Expanding his signature sound while staying true to the deep blues roots that launched his storied career, the album promises raw emotion, blistering guitar work and fresh sonic twists. With this album, Joe Bonamassa proves yet again that he’s not just keeping the blues alive – he’s driving it into the future.
- Note: The LP is initially available on both blue marble vinyl.
- You’ll Be Alright, Kid shows off Alex Warren’s vocal prowess and evolving sound, bringing his rawest and most authentic energy yet on tracks such as ‘Carry You Home’ and ‘Burning Down’, along with his earth-shattering smash hit single ‘Ordinary’ and newest release ‘Bloodline (with Jelly Roll)’. Known for his vulnerable pop melodies, passionate vocals and lyrical candour, Warren has won over fans globally with his powerful, personal brand of pop.
- Note: The LP is initially available on both white vinyl.
- Dog Eared is a warm, rich and textured record that bristles with confidence and self-belief. Billie Marten is embracing change while staying true to her core self. It’s a left turn from her previous recordings, albeit a subtle one, taken with a deftness of touch. There’s a certain strength of conviction here with which Billie calmly posits herself at the top of the tree of not just British contemporary folk artists but British songwriters at large.
- Note: The LP is initially available on both ‘deep ocean’ vinyl.
- I Beat Loneliness sees Bush – frontman Gavin Rossdale along Chris Traynor, Nik Hughes and Corey Britz – returning to top form, delivering a sonic evolution that fuses their signature grunge-laden intensity with bold new textures and themes. Exploring despair, individual struggles and mental health, themes that have become increasingly important for the band, imbues the album with a sense of urgency.
- After a long legal dispute with Easy Jet and an enforced name change from Easy Life, Onion is the long-awaited return of Hard Life. The new record showcases a more personal side to frontman Murray Matravers’s storytelling and touches on parting ways with a previous band member, the break-up from his long-term partner, his new creative direction, moving to Japan and the fall-out with Easy Jet.
- Note: The LP is initially available on both white vinyl with alternative sleeve artwork.
- The first notes from Sam Fason’s guitar on Air Between Us hit like a blast of sea air to the face. In just seconds, you’re soaring, in equal parts under the sky and above the sea. It’s in this in-between where Coral Grief thrive, as they construct elaborate webs of double meanings across this tribute and eulogy to their city and community. Singer and bassist Lena Farr-Morrissey and Fason are linked by the psychic chemistry that can only be unlocked by playing together for years.
Releases for 11 July 2025
The first of 11 July’s crackers comes from Barry Can’t Swim, one of the most exciting names in electronic music today, whose hotly anticipated second album, Loner, is the sound of the summer 2025: uplifting, joyous and addictive. Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? is the new album from Amy Macdonald, who has achieved huge international success while resolutely doing things her own way, cementing her reputation as a female Springsteen with cross-generational and international appeal. The Legendary Lost Tapes 1969 presents rare recordings, remastered from long-lost tapes and acetates, from blues-driven powerhouse Earth, the year before they became Black Sabbath and developed the heavy metal sound that would change rock music forever. Utopia, the first album that Gwenno has sung predominantly in English after three albums in Welsh and Cornish, presents a very different side to her life and songwriting; with tracks ranging from floor-fillers to piano ballads, this is Gwenno’s finest work to date. Poor Creature’s sound offers something unique in Irish folk music: on All Smiles Tonight there are gauzy, underwater, almost psychedelic seams alongside nods to the influence of American folk/bluegrass acts like Doc Watson and the Louvin Brothers.
Our release of the week is moisturizer, the bold second album from Wet Leg. The band has spent the past few years on the road, evolving into a feral, electrifying live force, and the album brings the bite to their sound: brash guitars, heavy beats and a fearless devotion to feeling everything – all at once.
- moisturizer is the bold second album from Wet Leg. The band has spent the past few years on the road, evolving into a feral, electrifying live force, and this record captures that energy, delivering a sound that’s tighter, bolder and more self-assured, yet still brimming with the same quick wit and raw, unrefined energy. While their 2022 debut topped charts and earned Grammy wins, moisturizer brings the bite: brash guitars, heavy beats and a fearless devotion to feeling everything – all at once.
- Note: The LP is initially available on white and black marble vinyl.
- Barry Can’t Swim’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. Following the success of his debut album, When Will We Land?, Barry has continued to solidify himself as one of the most exciting names in electronic music today. His hotly anticipated second album, Loner, is the sound of the summer 2025: uplifting, joyous and addictive.
- Note: The LP is initially available on red and gold ‘ink spot’ vinyl.
- Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? is the new album from Amy Macdonald, who has achieved huge international success while resolutely doing things her own way. World tours in front of 5 million people, over a billion streams, two #1 albums in the UK, six million album sales and the landmark hit ‘This Is The Life’, which topped the charts in ten countries and had a TikTok viral resurgence in 2023 with hundreds of thousands of creations bringing her to a new audience. She has cemented her reputation as a female Springsteen with cross-generational and international appeal.
- Before they became Black Sabbath, the Birmingham quartet were known as Earth – a blues-driven powerhouse already making a name for themselves in the late ’60s. The Legendary Lost Tapes 1969 presents rare recordings from that era, remastered from long-lost tapes and acetates. Featuring previously unheard tracks, demos and alternative takes, the collection captures Earth’s evolution as they pushed toward the heavy metal sound that would soon change rock music forever.
- Utopia, the first album that Gwenno has sung predominantly in English after three albums in Welsh and Cornish, presents a very different side to her life and songwriting. On the new album, she focuses on the now, capturing a time of self-determination and experimentation. The songs range from floor-fillers to piano ballads, with contributions from Cate Le Bon and H. Hawkline, and encompass William Blake, a favourite Edrica Huws poem and the Number 73 bus. Utopia is her finest work to date.
- Poor Creature is Ruth Clinton, Cormac MacDiarmada and John Dermody, (members of Landless and Lankum, respectively), who have built a large following by re-interpreting songs from the past. But Poor Creature’s sound offers something unique: on All Smiles Tonight there’s the gauzy, underwater, almost psychedelic seams of ‘Bury Me Not’ and ‘Adieu Lovely Erin’, while ‘All Smiles Tonight’ and ‘Hicks’ Farewell’ nod to the influence of American folk/bluegrass acts like Doc Watson and the Louvin Brothers.
Releases for 4 July 2025
The first of 4 July’s hot six is Night Mirror, a stunning collection of 10 brand-new songs suffused with optimism and loosely bound by themes of reflection and rebirth from Claudia Brücken, one the most influential and inspiring female musicians of her generation. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, The Sisters of Mercy’s classic 1985 debut, First and Last and Always, is being reissued on red/black marble vinyl – unequalled in the Goth genre, it has been copied to death but its brilliance has never been replicated. Mercury and Brit-nominated Kae Tempest’s fifth studio album, Self Titled, features Neil Tennant, Tawiah, Connie Constance and Young Fathers and is co-produced by Fraser T Smith and Tempest. Mercury Rev’s critically acclaimed 1991 debut album, Yerself Is Steam, is being reissued in a gatefold pack with the Car Wash Hair EP; this pair of releases propelled them into the public consciousness and kickstarted their decades-long career. And The Country Side of Paul Carrack Volume 1 contains a great selection of country standards delivered in Carrack’s inimitable style, backed by the cream of Nashville session musicians.
Our release of the week comes from Rival Consoles, aka Ryan Lee West, who has released a wandering collection of synth-sculpted albums that explore a myriad of different styles and aesthetics – but always with human emotion as their lodestar. Ninth studio album Landscape from Memory finally blossomed following a frustrating fallow year away from the production desk.
- Rival Consoles, aka producer and musician Ryan Lee West, has been concurrently in the foreground and background of electronic music since the late-’00s, including Black Mirror soundtracks, selling out major venues and logging an expansive, wandering collection of synth-sculpted albums that explore a myriad of different styles and aesthetics – but always with human emotion as their lodestar. - To celebrate its 40th anniversary, The Sisters of Mercy’s debut album, First and Last and Always, is being reissued on red/black marble vinyl. This 1985 classic remains unequalled in the Goth genre, permanently granted top place on a pedestal from which it cannot be toppled. From the opening claustrophobia of ‘Black Planet’ to the closing epic ‘Some Kind of Stranger’, First and Last and Always has been copied to death, but its brilliance has never been replicated. red/black marble
