A haunting, cinematic journey into a village that exists beyond time and place, Requiem for a Village is Steven Wilson’s most intimate and imaginative work yet. Blending dark folk, rock and electronica, the album unfolds as a continuous 54-minute ‘film for the ears’, populated by strange archetypes and eerie folklore. The album is…
There will be no weekly album releases until the new year now. Instead I will highlight a few of the albums I have enjoyed this year. I have some in stock and I can easily order any others you’re interested in. There is no order to these, just what I think have been great albums.…
The first of this week’s hottest albums is Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation, the tenth solo album from Edwyn Collins. The 11-track album was recorded at his Clashnarrow Studio in Helmsdale, north-east Scotland, and was co-produced by Edwyn with Sean Read and Jake Hutton, who all play on the album. The album also features James…
Steven Wilson’s eighth studio album, The Overview, is his most audacious to date, inspired by the “overview effect” experienced by astronauts looking back at the Earth from space. The two track, forty-two-minute album sees Wilson return to expansive, progressive music, a genre he helped redefine and repopularise with both his solo and Porcupine Tree releases.…

Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer McVie was not only the songwriter and vocalist for many of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits, including ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Everywhere’ and ‘Little Lies’, she…
We kick off our pick of 29 January’s releases with Goat Girl’s new album, On All Fours, which was produced by Dan Carey (Kate Tempest, Black Midi & Franz Ferdinand) in South London in early 2020. This new record sees the band veer away from the confrontational lyricism of their debut, and indicates Goat Girl’s…
The summer break for new releases has ended, and it was a bit of a struggle to condense the offerings for 18 August down to 8! First up, modern prog maestro Steven Wilson finally debuts on a major label with the sonically and melodically stunning To The Bone, a high-definition snapshot of the disconcerting times…
There is a fine batch of releases due 22 January and it was tough to pick out the best. Dystopia, the new album from thrashmeisters Megadeth, is main man Dave Mustaine’s view of civilization. Fat White Family’s Songs For Our Mothers is described perfectly as an invitation, sent by misery, to dance to the beat…
