First up of the new releases for 8 April is Ronnie Spector’s engaging English Heart. Frightened Rabbit, who should really be more popular than they are, release a fine fifth album, Painting of a Panic Attack, and The Lumineers’ follow-up to their first album is as timeless as you would expect. The fantastic Bellowhead are leaving us, but they do so on a high with a mighty live album that pulls off the tricky feat of giving you a great sense of the live Bellowhead experience. Ben Watt of Everything But the Girl fame returns with the exquisite Fever Dream. Cult Of Luna deliver a heavy punch of an album with Mariner, the really are the finest of Scandinavian metallers. The Dandy Warhols have produced a good album after a year of writing and touring, how endearingly old-school.
Release of the week is Hayes Carll’s Lovers And Leavers, which is weathered, weary and hard-bitten – great stuff!
