Here are our featured new releases for this week:
Muse – The WOW! Signal
The Devon trio return! Their run of albums from Showbiz through to Black Holes & Revelations is excellent. The tracks available so far from the new album sound great, and I’m looking forward to hearing it in full.
Lunatic Soul – Transition II
The solo project of Mariusz Duda, previously the main man behind Polish prog band Riverside, is more instrumental – in places ambient, in places folky, in places rock – and very much influenced by Mike Oldfield. The epic title track has been condensed down to 23 mins from 28 mins to fit on a side of vinyl. I love Lunatic Soul – you should too.
Beth Orton – The Ground Above
If the three tracks available now are anything to go by, this will be played a lot in the shop. Great vocals and top-notch song-writing.
Matt Berry Trio – Everything’s Peachy
The second release in Acid Jazz Records’ Jazz Sessions series sees actor and musician Matt Berry in a jazz trio. If you have heard any of Matt’s previous music, which often features in his programmes, you’ll be familiar with his sound. It’s got a laid-back jazz groove that I’m liking.
Fluke – The Second Bite
A reimagining of previous tracks by electronic pioneers Fluke, who have remixed the likes of Björk, Talk Talk, New Order and The Rolling Stones.
Air – Pocket Symphony
You may be surprised to hear that Air are one of my favourite bands. Moon Safari is a top ten album for me. This is their fifth album finally getting a reissue, and it’s full of their usual gorgeous chilled electronic and gentle guitar sounds – cinematic in feel. It even has a guest vocal from Jarvis Cocker, and makes you feel relaxed and good about things. Buy it!
