There’s a huge number of new releases for 25 September – reducing them to 8 was quite some task! To start with, there are massive box sets from David Bowie and Queen. The pre-sales for Queen’s Studio Collection have gone amazingly well so anyone thinking of an Christmas gift (sorry!) should get in early before this one becomes out of stock. This week also sees the releases of some achingly beautiful baroque pop from Julia Holter and a stripped-down, intimate record from indie darling Kurt Vile. New Order’s first studio album for ages, Music Complete, also available on indies-only clear vinyl. Natasha Khan – she of Bats for Lashes fame – returns with the intriguing Sexwitch, and the list is rounded off by some rollocking old fashioned rock’n’roll of ex-Georgia Satellites main man Dan Baird and his current band Homemade Sin. There’s also a six-album box set from legendary jazz-rock drummer Billy Cobham, and a vinyl reissue of Nino Rota’s iconic score for The Godfather, Part II.
Release of the week is the long-awaited and much-trailed Dead Weather’s Dodge and Burn.
