Here are our featured new releases for this week:
Angine de Poitrine – Vol. II
Do you like bonkers-looking bands and music featuring microtonal guitar tunings and weird time signatures (think King Crimson or even King Gizzard)? You do? I certainly do! Then this is for you. Having recently taken the internet by storm they release their second album, with their first being reissued on the same day. Is it prog? Is it art rock? Is it in fact shite? You decide.
Embrace – Avalanche
30 years into their career, Embrace release a new album. 30 years is good going. I liked one of their songs from 30 years ago.
Mono – Snowdrop
The band don’t particularly like the ‘post-rock’ label, but in spite of that this is essentially instrumental post-rock with an added orchestra. The two tracks released so far are very good.
Yes – Aurora
I flipping love Yes, but I stopped listening to them after Jon Anderson was hoofed out. Several of their albums are, however, utterly essential so this goes on the list because of that legacy. Also Steve Howe is still around.
Olivia Rodrigo – You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love
From what I saw of her Glastonbury set last year, Miss Rodrigo knows her way around a song. She had a great band around her and then there was Robert Smith, so she gets included this week. Will definitely be popular.
Look Outside Your Window – Look Outside Your Window
Four members of Slipknot started knocking songs together in between recording a Slipknot album in 2008. This was not a Slipknot album and never saw the light of day until this year’s RSD. It was hugely popular on the day, with horror stories of it fetching up to 10 times its retail price. Now it has a general release you can see for yourself if it was worth the wait.
