Matt’s top picks of 2025 part 2

Continuing from last week, here are six more albums I thoroughly enjoyed from this year. Again some you may know, some you may hate and some you may go ‘Who??’ Click on an image to order a copy.

  • Between the Buried and Me – The Blue NowherePre-order
    • Between the Buried and Me  The Blue Nowhere   CD £13.99 / 2-LP £32.99
  • Exceptional prog metal from the now four-piece US band. In parts brutal, in parts almost like Duran Duran!
  • The LP is in stock; CD can be ordered.

  • Bryony Purdue – DripfeedPre-order
    • Bryony Purdue  Dripfeed   LP £29.99
  • This was only released on vinyl last week and it is superb. The tag line is: ‘If Stevie Nicks fronted Radiohead.’ Not quite sure about that but I haven’t stopped playing it or bigging it up to those who come into the shop! The track ‘Turn’ is well worth a listen.
  • The LP is in stock.

  • Ghost – SkeletàPre-order
    • Ghost  Skeletà   CD £15.99 / LP £34.99
  • A new Ghost album means a new incarnation of Papa. This time it’s Papa V Perpetua bringing you big rock songs with singalong choruses. It’s Ghost – what more do you want!
  • The RSD Black Friday picture disc LP is in stock; CD can be ordered.

  • Creeper – Sanguivore II: Mistress of DeathPre-order
    • Creeper  Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death   CD £14.99 / LP 26.99
  • Sequel to the superb Sanguivore from 2023 from Southampton band Creeper. Still on the Vampire story. It’s full of big hooks and goth influences, with a cheeky nod to the Lost Boys soundtrack on one track. I’m looking forward to seeing this performed live next year.
  • The LP is in stock; CD can be ordered.

  • Ulver – Liminal AnimalsPre-order
    • Ulver  Liminal Animals   CD £16.99 / LP 28.99
  • This was initially released digitally but finally got a physical release this year. Ulver started out as a black metal band, however they have now moved far away from that and fully embraced an electronic sound, with a similar feel to Violator/ Songs of Faith era Depeche Mode. If you like it, there’s a new album coming early next year.
  • The LP is in stock; CD can be ordered.

  • Sarah McLachlan – Better BrokenPre-order
    • Sarah McLachlan  Better Broken   CD £14.99 / LP £34.99
  • I have always been a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan’s voice – just gorgeous. Better Broken is her first album in a few years. The voice and the songs just melt away. Well worth your time. I hope one day she’ll record something with Peter Gabriel – that would be astonishing!
  • The LP and CD are in stock.
