The recommended releases for\u00a08 July<\/strong> feature a diverse selection running from electronica to hard rock by way of soul and folk, and all the finer for it. Aphex Twin<\/strong> continues his heady rush of releases in the last 18 months with Cheetah<\/em><\/strong>, available in all formats \u2013 even cassette! Biffy Clyro<\/strong>\u2019s Ellipsis<\/em><\/strong> sounds very like them, no pretentious experimentation for the Biffy Boys and the album\u2019s a belter. You\u2019ll know Michelle Stodart<\/strong> from The Magic Numbers, but her second solo album is no retread: on it Michelle turns before our ears into a very fine songwriter. R\u00f3is\u00edn Murphy<\/strong>\u2019s Take Her Up To Monto<\/em><\/strong> is a worthy follow up to the Mercury-nominated Hairless Toys<\/em>, Hattie Briggs<\/strong> is a new and original voice in folk music, with Young Runaway<\/em><\/strong> amongst the finest folk releases so far this year. And Hundred Records favourites Larkin Poe<\/strong> have rebooted \u2013 or Reskinned<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 last year\u2019s Kin with a rockier sound.<\/p>\n

Album of the week, however, comes courtesy of The Avalanches<\/strong>. 16 years is a long time to wait, but Wildflower<\/em><\/strong> proves that the wait was worth it!<\/p>\n
