The 8 stand-out releases are: Guy Garvey<\/strong>\u2019s solo album, which confounds the stereotypes of lead-singer solo albums either being the same as the band or frankly bonkers; Matt Behringer\u2019s (The National) El VY<\/strong> project, a worthwhile addition to an increasingly impressive catalogue; Otis Redding<\/strong>\u2019s 12-CD Soul Manifesto<\/em><\/strong>, a treasure trove of one of soul\u2019s great artists; The Jam<\/strong>\u2019s Fire & Skill<\/em><\/strong> box set, comprising a live concert from each year of their existence; the two Van Morrison<\/strong> re-issues, including some unreleased gems; Roots Manuva<\/strong>\u2019s frankly astonishing new album, Bleeds<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 expect multiple appearances on the year end best-of lists. James Morrison<\/strong> makes a welcome return after 4 years with Higher Than Here<\/em><\/strong>, but album of the week is 1989<\/em><\/strong> from Ryan Adams<\/strong>; enough words on this one, just do your ears a favour and buy it!<\/p>\n
