Here are our picks for next week.

First out of the bag is Larkin Poe’s new album, Bloom, which sees the dynamic sister duo venturing further along on their evolving musical journey with a collection of songs that resonate with introspection, authenticity and a profound connection to their roots in American music. With their distinctive blend of masterful instrumentation and soulful harmonies, each track unfolds like a chapter, with lyrics that wind deeper and deeper towards the heart of Larkin Poe.

Matt Berry returns with his first new solo album since 2021’s Blue Elephant. This time he delivers a collection of songs inspired by soul and West-Coast psych, attaching an innate sense of melody to a lush, contemporary take on classic recording techniques. All of this is allied with Matt’s rich voice and unique lyrics. The album’s opening single, ‘I Gotta Limit’, is a sharp, pounding number with vocal duties shared with Kitty Liv. Elsewhere, there are collaborations with Eric D Johnson of The Shins and Golden Globe-winning actress Natasha Lyonne.

FKA twigs’ highly-anticipated third studio album, Eusexua, follows the artist on late nights in the underground techno scene of Prague. Eusexua is a state of being: a feeling of momentary transcendence often evoked by art, music, sex, and unity. It can be followed by a state of bliss and feelings of limitless possibility. It also refers to the pinnacle of human experience. It is united through any moment in which we are fully embodying ourselves, present in the moment, disconnected from technology, synthesised with those around us.

Live ID. is the definitive live album by Polish prog masters Riverside. This is a massive live rendition of 12 songs over 110 minutes recorded on 1 June 2024 at COS Torwar in Warsaw, containing thrilling live performances of songs from the acclaimed 2023 ID.Entity studio album, such as ‘Landmine Blast’, ‘Big Tech Brother’ and ‘Self-Aware’, plus favourites like ‘#Addicted’, ‘Panic Room’ and ‘Conceiving You’, performed in a truly compelling way. This set stresses the band’s unique stance and relevance within the current progressive music scene.

Rose City Band’s music is timeless sun-kissed country rock whose seemingly effortless momentum carries the joy of its creation without ignoring the darkness pervading our consciousness: nuanced performances and interplay between players unfurl like desert flowers splashing colour onto an arid landscape. Sol y Sombra imbues Ripley Johnson’s penchant for space and resplendent tonality with a denser amalgam of his influences through a delicate balance of the somber and the serene, making for a holistically joyous experience.

Our release of the week is The Bad Fire, which was recorded at Chem19 studios in Scotland with Grammy Award-winning producer John Congleton (St Vincent, Angel Olsen, John Grant) joining Mogwai in the studio for their eleventh album. A Scottish colloquialism for Hell, The Bad Fire draws inspiration from a series of tough personal moments that the band found themselves in following on from their chart-topping tenth album, As the Love Continues.

Click on an image to order your copy.

The new releases are starting to come thick and fast now.
