British singer-songwriter Jade Bird<\/strong>\u2019s second album, Different Kinds <\/em><\/strong>O<\/em><\/strong>f Light<\/em><\/strong>, is \u201cat its most basic is about falling in love, and at its most complex the chaos of trying to get away from your past\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve written about fictional characters, about myself and people who don\u2019t exist or at least only exist in my mind, memory and imagination,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis record started in Japan, a small getaway from a busy year. We took it to Mexico, to Nashville and to upstate New York adding pieces of songs along the way until it became the different phases of who I am, what my relationship is and what my relationship to other people has become.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bird added: \u201cIt\u2019s been a big exploration through evenings and mornings spent under strange skies. With Different Kinds <\/em>O<\/em>f Light<\/em> came different kinds of clarity in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Citing the likes of Iggy Pop, Fleetwood Mac and \u201cthe melodicism of Blur and Oasis at their sweetest\u201d as key influences, the new record has enabled Bird, she says, to finally be able to define herself as an artist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never felt like I could call myself an artist \u2013 like, \u2018we\u2019ll see\u2019,\u201d she said. \u201cWhereas I know that\u2019s my occupation now. That\u2019s who I am, and that\u2019s incredibly reassuring.\u201d<\/p>\n
