Autumn must surely be on its way \u2013 new releases are coming thick and fast again, and we had trouble narrowing it down to just six smashers for this week!<\/p>\n

We kick off with Why Me? Why Not<\/em><\/strong>, a clear upgrade on As You Were<\/em> but not a radical departure from it, which will come as a relief to Liam Gallagher<\/strong>\u2019s loyal fans. Liam himself says \u201cThe most radical thing I can do \u2013 as if I\u2019d ever say radical normally! \u2013 but the most radical thing I can do is do it better every time. Some other bands and singers want to try it! It\u2019s harder than doing a new South American opera disco song, that\u2019s for sure.<\/em>\u201d Nice dig at his bro there!<\/p>\n

Samantha Fish<\/strong>\u2019s prodigious gifts as a genre-bending songwriter and electrifying guitarist have inspired tremendous acclaim from critics and her peers and have earned the young artist an abundance of awards. Now, Fish is poised for a major breakthrough: her edgy album Kill Or Be Kind<\/em><\/strong> is sure to establish Fish as a potent force in roots music.<\/p>\n

The birth of Keane<\/strong>\u2019s first album in seven years came as a surprise even to them. Singer Tom Chaplin had released two solo albums, The Wave<\/em> and Twelve Tales Of Christmas<\/em>, but missed his old sparring partner, Tim Rice-Oxley. \u201cI found myself wondering how I had come to let this very enigmatic and important relationship in my life drift,<\/em>\u201d says Chaplin. Meanwhile Rice-Oxley found his life falling apart. From the ashes, he had written an album\u2019s worth of personal songs, fuelled by humour as well as pain. When Chaplin, bassist Jesse Quin and drummer Richard Hughes heard the songs, they were drawn to them immediately, both sonically and lyrically. Cause And Effect<\/em><\/strong> is the result.<\/p>\n

Morning In America<\/em><\/strong> consists of 7 songs recorded during the sessions for Mudhoney<\/strong>\u2019s 2018 album, Digital Garbage<\/em>. They include \u2018Let\u2019s Kill Yourself Live Again\u2019 (an alternate version of the Digital Garbage<\/em> stand-out \u2018Kill Yourself Live\u2019, and the bonus track for the Japanese CD version of that album), \u2018One Bad Actor\u2019 (a new version of Mudhoney\u2019s track on the limited-edition, and now very sold-out, SPF30 split 7″ with Hot Snakes), album outtakes \u2018Snake Oil Charmer\u2019, \u2018Morning In America\u2019 and \u2018Creeps Are Everywhere\u2019, plus \u2018Ensam I Natt\u2019 (\u2018So Lonely Tonight\u2019, a Leather Nun cover) and \u2018Vortex Of Lies\u2019 from a very limited EU tour 7″.<\/p>\n

Blink-182<\/strong>\u2019s eighth studio album is the confusingly named Nine<\/em><\/strong>(!) Well, it is released in the ninth month. This is the pop-punkers\u2019 follow-up to 2016\u2019s California<\/em>, and is replete with the usual guitar hooks and singalong choruses. The band remain as vital and relevant as they ever were.<\/p>\n

Our release of the week is Jaime<\/em><\/strong>, the stunning solo debut from Brittany Howard<\/strong>. Says Howard \u201cI turned thirty and I was like, \u2018What do I want the rest of my life to look like?\u2019 Do I want to play the same songs until I\u2019m fifty and then retire, or do I do something that\u2019s scarier for me? Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story? I\u2019m very private, but my favourite work is when people are being honest and really doing themselves.<\/em>\u201d As the frontwoman and guitarist in Alabama Shakes, Howard has become one of music\u2019s most celebrated figures \u2013 the band has won four Grammys (out of its nine nominations), and she has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation. But for Jaime<\/em>, Howard boldly decided to explore new directions, with diverse instrumentation and arrangements and intimate, revelatory lyrics.<\/p>\n
