Kicking off 9 August<\/strong>\u2019s famous five is Any Human Friend<\/em><\/strong>, which London-based indie-rock provocateur Marika Hackman<\/strong> wrote over a year in moments of grief after a painful break-up. \u201cThis is me diving into myself and peeling back the skin further and further,<\/em>\u201d Hackman says. \u201cIt\u2019s blunt, but not offensive. It\u2019s mischievous.<\/em>\u201d The New Adventures Of P.P. Arnold<\/em><\/strong> is the first new solo album in decades from this \u201960s soul icon, singer of timeless hits such as \u2018The First Cut Is The Deepest\u2019. This album of stunning new material features contributions from, among others, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene\u2019s Steve Cradock and The Specials. Thee Oh Sees<\/strong> release their umpteenth album, Facestabber<\/em><\/strong>. The band\u2019s driving force, John Dwyer, has this to say: \u201cTake a breath, you\u2019re going to need it. Take drugs, you\u2019re going to need those just to stand in line at the air and water reclamation centre soon enough. If you don\u2019t like it then don\u2019t listen, bub. Back to the comments section with you!<\/em>\u201d No, me neither \u2013 however, it is a great album! The mighty, blistering Slipknot<\/strong> unleash We Are Not Your Kind<\/em><\/strong>, their first full-length release for five years. Guitarist Jim Root said: \u201cThis is the most time we\u2019ve had to write a record, and work stuff out together. \u2026 One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full-length albums \u2013 not just songs. Slipknot wanted to make an album experience, front to back.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Whisper it quietly, but our album of the week is Tallulah<\/em><\/strong>, the latest from Feeder<\/strong>, a band in the midst of a renaissance. That renewed power continues with what is perhaps the band\u2019s most creative yet also concise record, an album that takes real chances while remaining committed to their trademark punk-edged melodies and crisp song construction.<\/p>\n
