This week\u2019s six recommendations kick of with the deep baritone and gothic Americana of Micah P. Hinson<\/strong>, and Live At The BBC<\/em><\/strong> is exactly what it says on the tin. Mary Chapin Carpenter<\/strong>\u2019s new album, Sometimes Just The Sky<\/em><\/strong>, is effectively a celebration of her acclaimed 30-year recording career and all the better for it. Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite<\/strong> follow their Grammy-nominated Get Up!<\/em> with No Mercy In This Land<\/em><\/strong>, another beguiling mix of acoustic\/electric blues, roots and R&B. The Vaccines<\/strong>\u2019 4th album, Combat Sports<\/em><\/strong>, shines a glorious sunshine whilst bathing every ear in an FM warmth and is chock-full of an infectious enthusiasm. Trembling Bells<\/strong>\u2019 7th album, Dungeness<\/em><\/strong>, was inspired by a visit to that stretch of coastline, and the songs feel like the end of the earth with a sweeping, apocalyptic grandness \u2013 both in sound and lyrics \u2013 while harking back to the \u201970s psychedelic heyday of Fairport Convention and Trees.<\/p>\n

Our album of the week is Golden Hour<\/em><\/strong>, on which Kacey Musgraves<\/strong> continues to explore the acceptable end of country music, with smart, pointed lyrics allied to sharp, modern arrangements. Lovely!<\/p>\n
