World\u2019s Strongest Man<\/em><\/strong> is the magnificent third solo album by Gaz Coombes<\/strong>, the follow-up to 2015\u2019s critically acclaimed Matador<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This remarkable collection of eleven deeply personal songs set to expansive, addictive melodies has been inspired by an eclectic mix of sources such as Grayson Perry\u2019s autobiography The Descent of Man<\/em>, Frank Ocean\u2019s Blonde<\/em>, Californian weed, British woodlands, unchecked masculinity, Neu!, hip-hop, and a whole lot more besides. From the deep soul purge of the title track to the coruscating Fripp-goes-motorik sprint of \u2018Deep Pockets\u2019 via the gorgeous cyclonic ballad \u2018Slow Motion Life\u2019 and the raw-as-hell stream of consciousness panic attack of \u2018Vanishing Act\u2019, World\u2019s Strongest Man<\/em> is a bold, ambitious, free-thinking, future-facing rock\u2019n\u2019roll record.<\/p>\n

Following the release of Matador<\/em>, Gaz evolved from \u2018former Supergrass frontman\u2019 to hugely respected Mercury Prize-nominated solo artist in the space of just ten months. That album spawned five singles, was described by Q<\/em> magazine as \u201chis masterpiece\u201d and labelled an \u201cinstant classic\u201d by Mojo<\/em>. Like Matador<\/em>, World\u2019s Strongest Man<\/em> was written, recorded and produced by Gaz Coombes at his home studio and at Oxford\u2019s Courtyard Studios, with co-production from long time studio partner Ian Davenport in a working process Gaz compares to what it must be like to edit a novel.<\/p>\n
