There are plenty of top releases coming up in December that we\u2019re excited about.<\/p>\n

We start of with On Air<\/em><\/strong>, which showcases the early vibrancy of The Rolling Stones<\/strong> live, includes eight performances not released officially before and is arguably the Stones at their early, raw peak. U2<\/strong> return with Songs Of Experience<\/em><\/strong>, a companion piece to 2014\u2019s Songs Of Innocence<\/em>, the two titles drawing inspiration from English poet William Blake\u2019s \u2018Songs of Innocence and Experience\u2019. Neil Young<\/strong> responds to the current state of turmoil in the USA on The Visitor<\/em><\/strong>, whose ethos can be summed up in the refrain of \u2018Already Great\u2019, in which Young insists: \u201cAlready great, you\u2019re already great. You\u2019re the promised land, the helping hand. No wall. No hate. No fascist USA. Whose street? Our street.<\/em>\u201d Young has taken a musical journey like he\u2019d never taken before, on which he\u2019s surprised even himself, always the mark of a creative leap, and the result is his most diverse album since Harvest<\/em> in 1972, another time when America was in the throes of becoming unhinged. Neil Young didn\u2019t blink then, and he isn\u2019t blinking now. Dan Michaelson<\/strong> follows up last year\u2019s critically acclaimed Memory<\/em> with First Light<\/em><\/strong> (out on 8 December), which focuses on the everyday first moment of consciousness before past, future, cynicism and memory come into focus. Though considered by Michaelson to be \u201cthe most unpleasant moment of any day,<\/em>\u201d the opportunity to write at this time became the working practice for the record and, as the writing progressed, reflection on those moments informed the songs. Van Morrison<\/strong>\u2019s new studio album, Versatile<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 his 38th \u2013 arrives less than three months after Roll With The Punches<\/em>, and finds the Irish crooner shifting to from blues to jazz standards. Once again, the covers on Versatile<\/em> are interspersed with Morrison originals. In November 2015 the legendary New Order<\/strong> returned to play two nights at a sold-out Brixton Academy in support of their new album, Music Complete<\/em>. The second of the two shows is now released as NOMC15<\/em><\/strong> (\u2018New Order Music Complete 15<\/em>\u2019). The Greatest Gift Mixtape<\/em><\/strong> (out on 8 December) is a mixture of outtakes, remixes and demos from Sufjan Stevens<\/strong>\u2019s 2015 album Carrie & Lowell<\/em>. This collection serves as a companion piece to Carrie & Lowell Live<\/em> and as an expansion of the original album. The mixtape also features four previously unreleased new songs, \u2018official\u2019 outtakes from Carrie & Lowell<\/em>, and is available on translucent yellow vinyl only.<\/p>\n

Our album of the week is From \u2018A\u2019 Room: Vol. 2<\/em><\/strong>, which continues Chris Stapleton<\/strong>\u2019s rise to becoming one of the true stars of modern American country music. Ridding himself of the tired old clich\u00e9s that abound in that genre, Stapleton makes astonishing music grounded in country history but forever looking forward.<\/p>\n
