This week’s featured new releases are:
The Durutti Column – Renascent
The first new studio album in 15 years from Vini Reilly and co. is a welcome return, awash with lush sounds. The band have also recently reissued several albums from their wonderful back catalogue.
Mansun – Attack of the Grey Lantern
A half-speed master reissue of the band’s 1997 debut during all that Britpop shizz. This is one of my favourite albums – so, so much better than anything else from that era. Do I need another copy? Silly question.
Lucia & The Best Boys – Picking Petals
New to me, but they’ve been around for nearly 20 years. Really like what I’ve heard so far: it includes collaborations with Lauren from CHVRCHES and Abigail from The Last Dinner Party, which may give you an insight into the sound. Toured with Garbage, which again comes across on a couple of songs. Give it a listen.
Orgone – New You
Reissue of 2013 album from the soul/funk outfit, which has never been available on vinyl until now. Funky and groovy as hell! You will tap your feet along.
Shearwater – The New World
This is great: Laid-back indie rock with vocals reminiscent of Edwyn Collins.
Steve Hackett – Genesis Revisited
This excellent 1997 album resurrected Steve Hackett’s career from small clubs to major theatres, playing the Genesis back catalogue he was involved in. A welcome reissue for reimagined versions of classics featuring prog alumni such as John Wetton, Bill Bruford and Tony Levin.
